YOU ARE INVITED: WRR Literary Festival 2015 [Saturday, 12th Dec, 10AM]

As part of activities to commemorate the third year anniversary of Words Rhymes & Rhythm (WRR Limited) and celebrate the gains of 2015, a year which has seen remarkable growth in Nigerian literature, WRR is holding the ‘WRR Literary Festival 2015’.

The theme of the Festival is ‘FIST (FEAST) OF WORDS’:

DATE: Saturday 12th of December, 2015

VENUE: ARTS THEATRE, Department of Theatre Arts, University of Ibadan

TIME: 10 am – 7pm

The theme ‘FIST (FEAST) OF WORDS’ was derived, first from the United Nations Human Rights Day which is observed every year on the 10th of December to commemorate the day on which, in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; and secondly to celebrate words, and the many forms in which humans have lumped them for meaning – poetry, prose, drama, music, spoken word, oratory.

WRR believes that the power of words, wielded by writers in all the literary genres, is very important in the entrenchment of human rights. One direct example of the threat to writers and artists is the case of the 32-year-old Palestinian poet and artist, Ashraf Fayadh, who was sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia by beheading.

‘FIST (FEAST) OF WORDS’, a one-day event, will feature panel discussion, critique sessions, spoken word performances, a play, book gifting, book unveiling/dedication, readings and music.

We will also be giving out several awards to over a 100 recipients:

The ALBERT JUNGERS POETRY PRIZE

The ERIATA ORIBHABOR POETRY PRIZE

The WRR-Caprecon GREEN AUTHOR PRIZE

The BRIGITTE POIRSON POETRY CONTEST

Recognition Awards to selected persons

Three new books will also be unveiled at the Festival:

VERSES FROM THE NIGER (the Green Author Prize co-authored book)

WIND OF CHANGE (the Brigitte Poirson Contest anthology, to be distributed free to attendees)

I SAID THESE WORDS (authored by Kukogho Iruesiri Samson)

We hope to have the pleasure of your attendance, even as we expect other amazing writers and pillars of Nigerian writers. We apologize that the invite is coming so close to the event. It was due to issues with logistics.

As a non-profit, we will appreciate whatever financial and moral support we can get from you to make this event a success.

It will be loads of fun and one of the biggest literary events of 2015, with most of the young Nigerian writers expected at the event.

If you intend to display books at the event, please reach out to us before Friday 11th of December, 2015. There will be no fee for this.
