APRIL 4TH-- INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR MINE AWARENESS

 WE ARE OUR OWN SUICIDE BOMBERS

It's always an ugly scene; cold red blood mixed with hot yellow fire, tears gushing, skin peeling, human parts flying here and there,Terror everywhere. . . The scenes that follow a suicide bomber's attack are mental scars that stick with people for a life time.

I wonder how Berlin and the rest of Germany would've been if that World War II bomb found near the train station yesterday had exploded--What a way to mark Mine awareness day. Ban ki-moon(UN secretary general) said in his address to commemorate International Mine awareness day that;

''The UN is strongly committed to mine awareness and mine action through out the world,on this International day we reaffirm our commitment to a world free from the threat of mines and other remnants of war.''

But what are mines?? Bombs and other explosives that failed to explode at the time they were used during combat. These remnants of war become dangerous to Civilians many years after the war is over. Just like that 70 year old--but still active--bomb found in Berlin. it would've been a really different story if that bomb exploded.

I can remember sometime ago here in Nigeria, Lagos state to be precise. Some war remnants were unknowingly detonated by civilians and it claimed a lot of lives. These war remnants are still lying undiscovered in different areas around the world. Maybe in Parks, banks, and even residential areas.

But mines are just a result of a bestial insanity; WAR!!! Why do we fight wars?? North Korea and the rest of the world have this huge misunderstanding because of her nuclear program. Tempers have flared recently and North Korea's latest statement to the world is; ''The moment of explosion is approaching. . .'' many people are even predicting World War III. But I just ask myself, when will Global leaders understand that voilence is not the best way to resolve conflicts? When? Is it after many more souls are lost to the trigger and nuclear bombs? Its just sad. So i would'nt only ask you to join the UN's 'Lend your leg' Campaign, I'd also beg you to lend your Knees. Pray for the peace of Mother Earth.
